Smart Communities Tour 2: Digital districts

Great study trip to one of the World’s most exciting digital districts – Hammarby Sjöstad in Stockholm, Sweden.

On October 4-5, 2023 we invited Nordic top managers to a two-day study tour in Hammarby Sjöstad, which is a part of Stockholm Green Innovation District, to explore how we can develop digital districts that contribute to smarter and more sustainable societies.

Together we learned about success factors for some of the most exciting and innovative digitalization projects and initiatives that have been implemented in Hammarby Sjöstad. Allan Larsson, former Swedish Minister of Finance and founder of the local innovation platform ElectriCITY, gave us an introduction to the history of the city district and the big picture of how to involve the citizens in innovation activities that will reach the mission to become climate neutral by 2030.

Jörgen Lööf, CEO of ElectriCITY, gave us a closer look at the innovation projects that are going on right now including positive energy districts, energy communities, car charging solutions and digital twins.

We then went for a short walk in around Hammarby Sjöstad to have a look at some of the successful projects and initiatives (smart charging & waste management systems) and shared some valuable learnings along the way.

We ended up at the digital innovation bureau Äventyret, where CEO Joel Bergqvist shared a new idea for the future of public digital services that we hope to co-create together with big and small actors from both private and public sector. Have a look at www.thingwalla.eu for more info on this exciting initiative!

It happened again! I had the privilege to go to Ålesund last spring, and now to Hammarby Sjöstad in Stockholm. Smart cities and innovation in the public sector. Highly impactful and inspiring!
